Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice. Pull down your pants and slide on the ice.
- Dr. Sidney Freedman, M*A*S*H

I have been watching M*A*S*H quite a bit since it showed up on TV Land. I haven't watched it much the last few years, and seeing it recently reminds me of just how great the show is. It doesn't seem dated at all and the themes seem just as relevant today as they did when it was in first run. Maybe moreso, given what is going on in the world today.

Chris got the complete M*A*S*H box set for Christmas and we've been working our way through the unedited episodes, we finished Season 8 tonight in fact. Agreed, they don't seem dated at all, though maybe they qualify as "period" pieces at times, and the tone is as poignant as ever. It's Chris' favorite show and of course has always been one of mine!

I've seen the movie. I've read all the books. I believe I've seen every episode at least once.

The movie was great, the books were just plain nonsense written to further pad Hooker's pockets.

The TV show, however (despite criticism that it wasn't true to the movie) was great. I don't think any other show billed as a comedy even comes close to being as socially redeeming as M*A*S*H* still is. It really is an ageless social commentary that also entertains. I was extremely disappointed when it ended its run, but I also understood their sound reasoning -- it's nice to see things end up on top and very few did at that time.

M*A*S*H* was probably the only television series where I made a conscious effort to see every single episode.
